Blog #1: Marissa S

Hello!

My name is Marissa and I am a sophomore at Texas Christian University.  I am from Richardson, Texas which is a little south of Dallas.  I am currently an early childhood education major but I am considering switching to special education.  I have always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher since I could remember; however, recently I have spoken with special education teachers and they have almost convinced me that I should switch.  I have done work with young children with disabilities and young children without and I have found both to be very rewarding!
During the course of this semester I would really like to hear and learn of the different beliefs and values just within a classroom of thirty or so college students.  There are no two people who can agree of every single little detail, and I love hearing other people's thoughts behind their unique set of beliefs.  I took this class not only because it is required but because the name of the class really caught my eye.  I believe that everything truly is an argument.  There can be two very different beliefs to the same exact story, and both of these beliefs can be 100 percent correct to two different individuals.  Just as they say beauty is in the eye of the holder, I believe the mindset to do the "right thing" is in the mind of the beholder.  Outside of class most of my writing is done in text messages.  Because my boyfriend goes to college 5 hours away I have started writing letters, which I have not done since I was in elementary school.  I feel my writing is pretty good but somewhat repetitive and doesn't always make since.  I tend to write like I talk, and I often ramble on about absolutely nothing.  Unfortunately, I do not keep up with my politics or find politics very interesting at all.  I wish I had more involvement or knowledge of politics though because it is always embarrassing to meet someone with a huge passion in politics and not have anything to say in response to him or her.  However, if I had to choice the most interesting thing to me about politics it would have to be learning and trying to understand the reasoning behind their strong personal values and goals for America, or whichever country they are representing.
When I looked back and read through my blog the first thing I noticed is that I wrote "Hello!".  By adding that exclamation mark I am showing the class that I am an enthusiastic person.  When I am saying hello to someone in person I usually am saying it rather enthusiastically; which is an example of how I write like I speak.  I choice the background of my blog to be pink; I believe this is saying that I am somewhat of a girly girl, which is true.  While I love to play sports and be outdoors, I also love shopping, flowers, decorating and all of those other awesome girly things!  When I read back to the part where I talked about how two different people can be right even if they are saying two opposite things, others might not agree with me at all.  However, by me saying that I am stating that I can see different points of view and I am able to accommodate to others.
I have read, understand and agree to the terms of the course syllabus.
